A 12-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter near the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Westmoreland Street in Kensington. She was transported to a local hospital, where she is listed in critical condition. Police said the vehicle driver briefly stopped after striking the girl but then fled the scene.
The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, and police say the girl fell from the electric scooter she was riding in the northbound lane and was struck by the motorist in a Hyundai. The vehicle was recovered near the intersection of Kensington Avenue and Venango Street, but the driver was not located. An investigation of the accident and the driver is ongoing.
In New Jersey, leaving the scene of an accident is a serious offense, especially one resulting in injuries or death. After an accident, drivers are required to stop immediately, report the accident to the police, render aid to the injured, and exchange contact and insurance information with the other driver. Failing to do so can result in severe penalties, including fines, license suspension, and potential imprisonment.
