Two workers were killed in a construction site accident while attempting to install antennas onto a water tower near Bethany Beach on November 2, 2020. The two men have been identified as 23-year-old Jovan Maldonado and 22-year-old Bryan Maldonado Andino. They were pronounced dead at the scene. The workers were in a Z135 Man Lift working to put antennas on the Sussex Shores water tower for the Velex Company. Police have reported that the men were 120 ft. off the ground when a large gust of wind caused the lift to tip over and become tangled in electrical wires. The entire lift fell to the ground which was ultimately the cause of death for the two workers. The Division of Forensic Science and U.S. Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) are helping with this ongoing investigation.
Construction accidents are serious and can cause major injury or death to occur. Construction sites have many different hazards that can injure both workers and other individuals. Despite taking all safety precautions, accidents can still happen, especially if equipment and sites are not up to code. The above accident was caused by rough working conditions and an equipment failure. The outcome of this investigation may lead to a very big construction accident claim and work injury lawsuit.
