The Mazda Motor Company is recalling their sports cars for a problem stemming with their fuel system. Nearly 70,000 RX-8 sports cars from 2004 to 2008 will be recalled due to defective fuel pump sealing rings. Due to heat exposure from the engine or exhaust pipe, the rings deteriorate. Once they deteriorate, fuel may leak out and a fire could ignite if near a flammable object or ignition source.
Although no injuries or incidents have been reported, Mazda will notify owners of affected cars. These owners will be eligible to receive a replacement for the fuel pump sealing ring at no cost. It is stated that the repair is simple, yet Mazda dealerships may need to order the parts before fixing the vehicles experiencing the problem.
